In severe Pain
Due to a recent medical set back, I have had to postpone my walk a Cross, America, for at least a couple more months. After starting on April 11, 2010, I had to undergo radiation treatments to stop the bleeding in my lung and kill the tumor. This process took over two months, from getting with the physicist and medical doctors to the end of the treatments. I was advised to take enough time to recover from the trauma to the body and for the doctors to give the release for me to be able to continue my journey. Shortly after I was released, I became sick from radiation to my lungs and this took almost two months, before I felt strong enough to continue my journey on. This was in August 2010, and at that time I decided to wait until September, after my daughter’s wedding on September 11, 2010. This was done because of the extreme heat I would be encountering and because of the setbacks in my schedule. The recent setback started sometime in April 2010, when I noticed I was having back pains in my lower back. These pains were becoming stronger and even my drives to Richmond for treatment became very painful. I have an old injury when I was in the military and fractured my spine in my lower back. Throughout the last 35 years, I had experienced pain that for whatever reason would come and go in just a few days. This was a different pain altogether and towards the end of June, it was getting more severe and even going down into my hip, then down my leg and into my foot. I started getting scared that is pain was possibly cancer which had metastasized in my bones. Not wanting to believe that the cancer was still in my body and trying to kill me, after all God had brought me through. I went to my oncologist and advised her of what I was going through. She immediately had a bone scan done on me to determine whether not it was cancer or what is it something else going on. From the onset she thought it was my sciatic nerve being pinched. After the bones scan came in, my doctors have assured me that it is not cancer and we’re in the process right now of getting me set up with back specialist to determine whether not surgery is required at this time. All the test results show that I have a herniated disk. If I have to have surgery, it is going to be as soon as possible to avoid any further damage and eliminate the pain and numbness running down my leg and into my foot. As soon as I get more answers and if they decide to do surgery, I will give you an update as to when I am going to continue my journey with my Cross, America.
